Abstract:
This paper explores how the Internet of Things (IoT) can be leveraged to monitor the external exposome—the complete set of environmental exposures individuals face throughout life. Designed for public health and medical researchers, the paper offers a tutorial-style overview of IoT systems, including sensor technologies, communication protocols, power optimization, and environmental data analytics. It also reviews real-world deployments in air quality monitoring, radiation tracking, and biological hazard detection. Implementation templates provide actionable guidance for non-engineering audiences, encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration and demonstrating how IoT can support real-time, context-aware, and scalable public health solutions.
